The Fall 2010 Season

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will have two Divisions:

  • 19+ Age Division

  • 30+ Age Division

We continue to expand the 19+ Age group!  Until there are at least three 19+ Age teams, the 19+ age teams will be allowed to enter the 30+ Age Division and will get a 20% refund off registration if the rule is invoked that will not allow them to compete in the 30+ Age Division tournament (if at least four 30+ team managers decide not to allow them to play prior to tournament time).  For the last three seasons, they have been allowed to play in the tourney and have not won!

Each 30+ team will most likely only play a 19+ team at most twice in the season, with most teams playing them once.  As soon as Legends gets three 19+ teams, they will become their own division.  Due to the potential of these younger players being dominant within the league, any opposing 30+ manager has the right to request a dominant 19+ pitcher to sit after three dominant innings.  Also, any person on a 30+ team may pitch against a 19+ team (voiding the 32+ rule for pitchers).

Any age player who perhaps prefers a quicker game, may choose to play on a 19+ team/division.  19+ teams should minimally affect existing league play, as it is very much like past seasons where Legends scheduled inter-league games with younger teams of higher skill.

General Info:

The Fall 2010 season will most likely begin on August 22 and end in mid November.  Rosters and schedules will be sent about a week prior to the first game. Teams are scheduled to play at least 9 games, which includes playoff games.  Losers in playoffs continue to play in consolation games.

Costs:

Costs include a $203 registration fee and a one-time $130 uniform cost for first-year players.    These high quality uniforms are used from season to season, and only need to be purchased once.  There is also a fee for non-Prince William or non-Fairfax County residents, but will be reduced to $30 vs. $37 from past seasons.  Additional non-county resident fees are charged by Prince William and Fairfax, and we must pass on a portion of  it to non-county residents.

If registering late, there is an additional $25 late fee.

Discounts are given for groups: 20% off registration for 3-6 new players, and 50% off for 7 or more new players.  Ask us for a Group Code to use when registering.

Field Locations and Times:

Field locations have not yet been determined.  Requested field locations include Pfitzner Stadium, Leitch Park and Veteran's Park as well as ball fields in south Fairfax County including Lee High School and South County Secondary.

Game start times will vary depending on the final schedule, but almost exclusively on Sundays.  Game start times are typically 9am, 12pm, 3pm, and sometimes 6:30pm.

Seasons
Legends currently has separate leagues in Spring and Fall.  The Fall Season generally starts in late August while the Spring Season starts in April.

Uniforms
All players receive a high quality baseball uniform including two baseball jerseys (home and away) with pre-designated number, baseball pants, hat, socks, and belt.  Players must supply remaining equipment such as glove, cleats, and bat. (Catcher’s equipment is included for each team.)  When you join Legends, you only purchase the uniform once, as it can be worn during subsequent seasons.

Game Length
Games are scheduled for 9 innings or a maximum of 3 hours, with no new inning beginning after 2 3/4 hours.  If there is a tie, the field is still available, and managers agree, the umpires can decide to continue the game.

Teams
Participating players will be assigned to a team with the goal of creating equal strengths of teams.  If you desire to play on a particular team or with a friend, specify that on the registration and every effort will be made to accommodate you. 16 players is the absolute maximum on any given team, unless a team desires more due to less availability of players for games.

Age Limits
All players must be at least 19 years old by Opening Day (if age 19-29, you must enter the 19+ league).  You must be at least 32 years old to pitch in the 30+ league.

Umpires
Two umpires will oversee each game.  If you have umpiring experience or would like to learn, and are interested in umpiring, contact us for further information.

Playoffs!
Although the league downplays heavy competition and stresses fun, let's be honest - we all like to win!  To satisfy our need to “Be a Legend”, a single elimination tournament will be held at the end of the season. All teams are in the playoffs regardless of regular season records. Trophies will be awarded to the winning team in each division.

Refunds
Refunds (minus administrative fee of 10%) can only be given 3 weeks prior to the start of the season.  This is necessary because of the nature ordering uniforms and/or confirming rosters.

Injuries

If you are injured during the first three weeks of the season and cannot play the remaining season, you can receive a $50 credit towards your next season.  You may also transfer this credit to any new player to the league.

Please note: To keep costs down for our players, Legends does not purchase excess accident medical coverage for injury to participants.  Please make sure your own insurance covers any injury you may have.
